I had no idea that these four years at PNEC would change my life and groom me in so many ways. I was a complete nerd and an introvert when I joined PNEC. I would spend most of my time studying and sleeping during the first semester. Then I met an amazing bunch of people in the hostel, hailing from different parts of Pakistan. They made me realize that "life was made for good friends and great adventures."
The best part of studying at PNEC is its hostel life and culture. The friendship bond that hostel students develop stays for ages. Hostel life is what makes you feel the beauty of PNEC and teaches you many different things that could help you every now and then.
I had the privilege of representing PNEC (NUST) through a semester exchange scholarship program in the United States and was among the finalists in the National University of Singapore (NUS) Summer Enterprise Scholarship Program (but couldn't attend it due to some reasons). All these achievements could not have been possible had I not been living in the hostel and learning from the seniors, batchmates, and juniors around me. Now I believe that I'm more or less the opposite of what I was in the first semester. I would say that PNEC may not be the best institute to study engineering, but it is the best in terms of grooming and availing opportunities around you. PNEC made me realize that I could have done better in fields other than engineering—it proved to be an eye-opener for me.
Most people here would know me as a THEETA/CHOKA, but that doesn't matter as it has nothing to do with one's character. Scoring a good GPA is very important for all those who wish to study abroad and get scholarships, so don't listen to those who say GPA doesn't matter—it really does.
Here are some GPA scoring tips for the juniors, sophomores, and freshmen out there from my four-year experience at PNEC:
- Always attend the classes
- Note down all the lectures and read them before exams
- Keep your attendance at 100% (if not possible, then at least 90%)
- Do your best in quizzes and hourlies
- Teach your fellows—you'll learn a lot from teaching others
- Do SSS (Selective and Smart Study)
P.S. Think big, dream big, believe big, work hard, stay focused, stay foolish, stay hungry, surround yourself with good people, and the results will be big.
Hope you all have a good life at PNEC.
Best,
